Recently multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems based on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems with spatial multiplexing have been the subject of active research because they can yield a substantial improvement in throughput performance. The main strength of MIMO-OFDM systems is their potential ability to support very high data rates. However, interference between MIMO antennas has been a main obstacle in achieving high data rates in practical MIMO systems. Channel estimation is very critical to reduce antenna interference and improve throughput performance of MIMO-OFDM systems. In this seminar, we discuss a MIMO-OFDM transceiver and channel estimation algorithms for the MIMO-OFDM system. For a discussion in a practical view, we design receiving algorithms and analyze performances based on the IEEE 802.11n WLAN system which is one of the most representative MIMO-OFDM systems.
