7. 내용요약
Cross-layer design of wireless networks, involving congestion control, routing, and MAC scheduling, has been extensively studied over the past 15 years. Starting from the optimal algorithm by Tassiulas and Ephremides based on back-pressure routing and max-weight scheduling, there have been significant research efforts in this area such as suboptimal schemes with partial performance guarantee, random access with message passing, and randomized algorithms. One of the key messages of the past cross-layer design research is that MAC scheduling is the major obstacle to practicability, where most of algorithms require a certain form of (heavy) message passing, i.e., high complexity. Moreover, delay performance, which is also our main interest, is under-explored due to the complex coupling dynamics of nodes and links due to interference. This talk summarizes the speaker’s recent work in these two next steps-towards simplicity and delay-as well as that of others, and discusses future research topics.
