7. 내용요약 :

Generally speaking, radio waves have been used for communications, remote sensing and navigation. Historically, these functions have been implemented in dedicated separate systems, e.g., WiFi for communication, radar for sensing and GPS for navigation. Nowadays, there is an increasing interest in reusing radio signals and systems that were originally developed and deployed for one purpose in order to implement a different function. In this general framework, it is interesting to exploit existing terrestrial communication signals for the purpose of localizing a radio transceiver. In so doing, we need to address several system-level aspects. One of the most prominent challenges is the lack of synchronization in such systems. In this lecture we will argue that node and signal synchronization are not essential in gredients of localization systems, and they can be replaced by node cooperation.

 

In this lecture, we will provide a general framework for the problem of time-based localization in fully asynchronous scenarios where multiple nodes cooperate to determine the (unknown) position of one or more radio transceiver. Starting from very basic notions and definitions, I will provide a general formal model for a sub-class of localization problem, and sketch possible resolution approaches. In the final part of the talk I will illustrate briefly some recent research results and experiments in a WiFi testbed.

 

The lecture will be highly tutorial and will target a combination of audience of Master and possibly PhD students. No specific previous knowledge is required other than what is normally taught in undergraduate courses of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Interested colleagues and members of the teaching staff are also welcome to attend.
