7. 내용요약 :

The design and implementation of wireless systems is increasingly shifting from the hardware to the software domain: in modern software-defined radio (SDR) systems, signal manipulation functions are implemented in software, programmed in some high-level language and run on general-purpose processors.

The softwarizationof radio transceivers allows developing systems that are more flexible, adaptable and "smart" than traditional hardware-based systems. It facilitates experimentation and over-the-air testing of novel techniques for wireless communication and/or sensing. The availability of open-source SDR software gives an unprecedented opportunity for digital transmission and reception at any frequency, with any protocol and waveform, using affordable hardware and open-source software. The combination of SDR with low-cost hardware and open-source software lowers the barrier for over-the-air radio experimentation, with a revolutionary impact on teaching as well as research.

The In this lecture I will give a general introduction of the Software-Defined Radio (SDR) paradigm, along with a high-level overview of some of the most popular SDR hardware available today for teaching, experimentation or simply for hobbyists. We will reason together about the opportunities unlocked by SDR and the future development of (certain areas of) the wireless world.

The lecture will be highly tutorial and will target a combination of audience of Master and possibly PhD students. No specific previous knowledge is required other than what is normally taught in undergraduate courses of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Interested colleagues and members of the teaching staff are also welcome to attend.
