Department of Artificial Intelligence
The AI Major at Kyungpook National University was launched in March 2021 within the School of Convergence (now the College of Advanced Technology Convergence) as the university’s first AI-related major. In March 2023, it was incorporated into the School of Electronics Engineering and has since been jointly operated with the AI Major at Pusan National University. Depending on the completion of the curriculum, students are awarded either a joint degree from KNU and PNU or a standalone degree from KNU. In addition, the graduate program is operated in connection with the Department of Artificial Intelligence. It aims to foster highly skilled talent capable of securing world-class technological competitiveness in AI and leading AI-based technological innovation in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
In particular, the KNU AI major focuses on foundational education and research in core AI fields such as Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, and LLM/VLM. Moreover, by providing education and research across general or specialized AI sectors—including Generative AI, Robot/Mobility AI, Medical AI, Quantum AI, AI Computing, AI Systems, AI Algorithms, and AI Hardware—it aims to cultivate creative and practical talents. Simultaneously, by fostering high-level professionals who will play a key role in developing next-generation AI technologies, it contributes to securing global competitiveness and achieving sustainable socio-economic development.
